Nature Programs for Home Learners | 2018-2019

Come explore the wild spaces of Mac Johnson Wildlife Area with other home learners. Qualified and experienced instructors will teach children ages 5 to 10 about nature and conservation. Children will come away with new nature knowledge and a greater connection to the natural world.

Program Details:

Programs take place Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This is not a drop off activity. Parents who wish to participate with their children in the program are welcome to join us in our activities. Parents who do not wish to participate can remain in the pavilion/parking area but must remain on site.

Location: Programs take place at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area located on Debruge Road, east of Tincap, 4 km north on Hwy. 29 from the 401 in Brockville.
Our instructor, Brenda, will meet you and your family outside in front of the Nature Centre at 1:00 p.m. sharp.

Amazing Autumn! Welcome the fall by joining us for relaxed nature rambles, marsh dipping, forest log discoveries and much more. Your child(ren) will visit the pond, field and forest habitats to experience all the changes that happen to plants and animals during this colourful season.
Dates: October 3, 10 and 17

Wondrous Winter! Bundle up and feel alive while we embrace the wilds of winter. Discover animal stories by following their tracks and scats. Puppet friends and songs will guide us to appreciate the crystal beauty that winter has to offer on our ice covered marshes, snow covered fields and our forests that are full of hidden winter life.
Dates: February 6 and 13

Spectacular Spring! Slip on your runners and skip along our trails as the sun smiles upon us and awakes all of our plant and animal friends. Revisit the marsh and dip-net for friends, say hello to the spring wildflowers and sing with the birds.
Dates: May 1, 8 and 15

Snack and Dress

Please come dressed for the weather and bring a water bottle and a healthy, nut-free snack.

About Our Staff

Brenda has over 10 years of experience teaching pre-school to adult-aged learners in outdoor education settings. She enjoys working with children and passing on her love and extensive knowledge of nature and the outdoors. All of our staff have current first aid and CPR certification.

Fees & Registration

The Nature Program for Home Learners is $48.00 ($6.00 x 8 visits). Registration is required for this program. We use PayPal for all of our online registrations. You do not have to have a PayPal account to use PayPal, you may use a credit card at checkout.

Refund policy

Once the program has started, there are no refunds. To qualify for a refund the CRCA must receive notice 5 business days (Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM) before the program start date (Oct. 3)
