Low Impact Development Training Series

December 4, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Stormwater Management and Building Resilient Communities Announcing a Training Series

The Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP), the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority and the City of Kingston have come together, with financial support from Natural Resources Canada, to offer three workshops on Low Impact Development (LID). The courses will be held at the INVISTA Centre Kingston, 1350 Gardiners Road for the subsidized cost of $100 per day (including lunch) on Tuesday Nov. 5, Wednesday Dec.4 and Thursday Dec. 5, 2019. The sessions will be lead by Jen Hill (STEP/TRCA), Kyle Vander Linden (CVC) and Bernadeta Surowiec (CVC).

Low Impact Development (LID) is an innovative stormwater management approach that treats, infiltrates, filters, and retains runoff at the source. LID practices are proven approaches that have been implemented with great success for decades.  This approach is quickly gaining traction here in Ontario and across Canada as practitioners come to understand the benefits and need for building water resilient communities.

December 4th – Building Forward: Principals of Successful LID Construction, Certification, Inspection and Maintenance Workshop

As LID devices are unique in that they work within the constraints of their immediate surroundings to treat, infiltrate, filter and retain runoff. There are specific considerations that contractors need to appreciate to build and effective LID’s and ensure long term function. Similarly, there are particular concerns for inspection and maintenance. This workshop is intended for developers, consultants, municipal staff, students, landowners, contractors and anyone else looking to gain a strong working knowledge of sustainable stormwater planning, practices, design, construction, operations and maintenance and monitoring approaches. We are developing local examples for discussion reflecting the restrictions found in this watershed. Further details will soon be posted. This course is intended for stormwater engineers, planners, landscape architects, agency and municipal staff.
